I am a Junior Finance major and Economics minor here at the IUPUI Kelley School of Business. I have a passion for helping and empowering underrepresented communities on campus and beyond. As an African American business student, I have developed a particular interest in studying minority commerce. My ultimate goal is to create a non-profit financial planning firm that serves a non-tradition base. Instead of the wealthy, I would like to build a firm that caters to the needs of lower-income families and traditionally marginalized communities. My vision is to equip everyone, not just the privileged, with the financial knowledge to be successful and to close the economic gap. Here at IUPUI, I have had the honor of serving as the Treasurer of Black Student Union as well as various diversity and relations committees. As a member of BSU and various committees, I have had the chance to advocate on behalf of students and faculty on a wide range of social and economic issues.
Why I Come to the Multicultural Success Center
The long awaited Multicultural Success Center is a valuable campus resource. For years, faculty and staff have asked for a space that serves the needs of a diverse metropolitan campus. As Treasurer of Black Student Union, I regularly come to the MSC to ensure that students have access to resources related to campus, academics, organizations, and the surrounding community. Not only do I assist students in those areas, but I also come to the MSC for information for myself. I don’t see the Multicultural Success Center as merely a collection of offices, but as a family. I have found the MSC to be the best place to interact with students and staff who look like me as well as with those who don’t. It is a multifunctional space where staff and students disseminate information, tend to academics, and to fellowship. The center is truly IUPUI’s Mecca of diversity. I look forward to seeing the reach, physical space, and programming of the MSC expand in the future. Come by and see us!
